David Maldonado

ChasinDoodles is the pseudonym of artist David Maldonado

David was born and raised in rural northern california. Always fascinated by animation, David began doodling at a young age. Active in art classes as a young man led David to study Fine art and Animation at SFSU. Soon after graduation David realized that the life of a working animator was not his path and began to pursue his career as a working artist.

David is a very diverse artist. Exploring the male form and abstract ideas all with a mid-century influence. He works in acrylic on canvas, digitally and in photography. The male form figures predominantly in his work. David explores, through his art, the larger male body. A body not often depicted in art. David hopes that his work will show the beauty of the larger male, and help normalize it as well. Another common theme is the intersection of light and color. Utilizing bold color that he mixes himself, he infuses his paint with a fluorescent base making his paintings black light reactive.

David has shown his work in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. He has gathered awards and accolades along the way. Most recently David was awarded “The Bill ‘The Hun’ Schmeling Single Figure Award” at the 2022 Tom of Finland Art and Culture Fair in Los Angeles. Because of this award David’s work is now a permanent part of the Tom of Finland Archives.
