What would a action comic strip be without a hero? Bill starts to wrap drum in the mantle of justice, and lone protector like any good writer. But no superhero, he’s also dependent on those around him to realize his intentions against the powers of evil, particularly for young defenseless gays.
At the time of writing these stories, biker culture – an offshoot of perhaps WWII veterans wanting to relive battlefield camaraderie – was deemed both outlaw in practice, but exciting in imagination. As outcasts from society of course, there was a strangely natural affinity with gay male life at the time, and nothing would seem more masculine than gay bikers, and of course biker bars with leathers, roaring motorcycles, and rough play.
For the hero, rough play of course preferably naked, and anointed with oils. Can’t get away from certain kinds of secret Classical references.
